A place for Osho Meditations in Amsterdam

Recognise one of those moments when you want to scream at the top of your lungs like a little child? Unfortunately when you are an adult one is not ‘allowed’ or ‘shouldn’t’ do this. Every day, primary school children spend a few hours in class, after which they are allowed to play outside for a while. They enter the schoolyard screaming and running to relieve themselves from sitting still, listening attentively and learning. Unfortunately, this happens less and less as we mature. When do you actually do that, unload without shame or control?

Estimated read time: 5 minutes.

Spiritual house open for everyone

Did you know that there is a place in Amsterdam where you can go crazy during a meditation session? A spiritual house, open to everyone, where everything is allowed and you can walk in every day? In the Pijp in Amsterdam Oud Zuid you will find Osho Mevlana Commune. A community from the 1990s where sannyasins (followers of the Osho movement) still live together in an inspiring commune.

If you travel to India, you will come across many of Osho’s book series in the kiosks at the airport in Delhi. I was inspired by the way Osho looked at the ego, relationships, the current times and Western people. Then I ended up at Zorba the Buddha, a green oasis eco-village in the middle and under the smoke (smog) of New Delhi. I imagined myself among sannyasins and other spiritual fortune seekers from all over the world. A big family, that’s what it felt like. And during the festival I was immersed in Osho’s types of mediation. Great! Finally an enlightened mind that has understood that sitting still with a racing mind does not work. Do you also want to unload and experience a natural high?

Then try one of the open meditations (on donation) in the Amsterdam Osho community:

  • Evening Meditation: daily from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
  • Kundalini Meditation: every Sunday from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
  • Dynamic Meditation: Monday to Saturday from 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM (an hour later on Sunday)

Dynamic Meditation sets you free

The Osho Dynamic Meditation is an active meditation on music. It is intended to first release unnecessary baggage from your system and body, making it easier for you to achieve deep meditation. Dynamic Meditation is quite extreme, fast and intense meditation that will make you sweat a lot. If you really allow yourself to dive into it, this way can release many emotions and allow you to experience more freedom and silence in your being.

The meditation lasts one hour and consists of 5 phases:

  • 1st phase: fast and chaotic breathing through the nose (10 min)
  • 2nd phase: catharsis / release the inner child with voice and body (10 min)
  • 3rd phase: ‘how’ phase / jumping with voice (10 min)
  • 4th phase: freeze / standing silence meditation (15 min)
  • 5th phase: move / celebrate life by dancing (15 min)

Kundalini Meditation creates flow

The Osho Kundalini Meditation is a meditation to do late in the afternoon or around sunset to shake off the energies of the day (literally and figuratively). To relax and let go. Being completely absorbed in the shaking and dancing of the first two phases helps your tense body to ‘melt’ where the flow of energy is suppressed and blocked. The last two phases ensure that all this energy can continue to flow and move upwards into the silence.

The meditation is done with his specific OSHO Kundalini Meditation music, which indicates the different phases and provides energetic support.

The meditation lasts one hour and has 4 phases.

  • 1st phase: let go and start shaking (15 min)
  • 2nd phase: dance and follow your body as it moves (15 min)
  • 3rd phase: sitting or standing silence meditation (15 min)
  • 4th phase: lie down and relax with eyes closed (15 min)

Osho about Kundalini Meditation

“When you do the Kundalini Meditation, allow the shaking – don’t do it! Stand still, feel it coming and if your body starts to shake a little, help it, but don’t do it! Enjoy it, let it make you feel of giving happiness, allow it, receive it, welcome it, but don’t use your will. If you force it, it becomes an exercise, a physical exercise. Then you shake, but only on the surface. It does not penetrate you You remain unmoved, as rigid inside as a stone or a rock. You remain the one who manipulates, who does, and your body only follows you. It’s not about your body, it’s about you.”

“When I say shake, I mean that your rigidity, your rock-solid being must be shaken to its very foundations, so that it becomes fluid, so that it melts and flows. And as the rock-hard being becomes fluid, your body will follow. Then there is no someone who shakes, but only a shaking; then there is no one who does it, it happens simply. Then the doer is not.”

“Enjoy it, but leave your will out of it. And remember that you cannot enjoy something that you achieve with your will. They are each other’s inverse, each other’s opposite; they do not touch each other anywhere. If you want something you cannot enjoy it .If you enjoy something you cannot achieve it with your will.”
