Symptom Constellations

Symptom Constellations

Does your body know more than you do?

Sometimes your body speaks before you can find the words. Recurring headaches or unexplained fatigue. But also burn-out, autoimmune symptoms, or even infertility. Your body might be carrying something deeper than your conscious thoughts.

A symptom constellation reveals the possible meaning behind a physical complaint or illness. It’s not a medical treatment, but a systemic approach to explore why your body might be sending this particular “message.”

What is a symptom constellation?

In a symptom constellation, we work with representatives or floor anchors to let the story behind your symptom speak. You might give space to the symptom itself, your body, an emotion, or a family dynamic. This creates a spatial image of what’s happening: what’s stuck, what emotions are involved, and what’s ready to move.

Why does it sometimes work — when nothing else does?

Your body doesn’t lie. It stores signals that your mind may have long forgotten. A symptom constellation gives your body a voice. Just by seeing what it wants to express, people often feel relief, not because the symptom vanishes instantly, but because they are truly listening.

The goal is clarity: to understand why your body is speaking this way. That understanding can open the door to a new relationship with your symptom. The question is: are you truly willing to face the truth?

How does a symptom constellation work?

There are a few ways to do a symptom constellation:

In a group setting

  • You briefly share your symptom or concern.
  • Participants represent parts of your system: your body, the symptom, a family member, or a concern.
  • You observe what unfolds: the positions, the distance, the energy in the space.

Individually

We choose floor anchors or wooden figures together.

  • You place anchors for things like “headache,” “fear,” “mother,” or “feelings.”
  • You step onto each anchor and sense what your body or emotions reveal.

Both methods shed light on why the symptom is present, without trying to fix or remove it. Simply listening to what is being shown often brings relief and insight.

A doorway to something deeper

Symptom constellations often reveal more than just the physical complaint. Pain, fatigue, or infertility may turn out to be linked to unresolved trauma or systemic entanglements in your family line.

In many cases, three layers become intertwined: the physical layer (through the symptom), the trauma layer (where old wounds or survival strategies still live), and the systemic layer (where you may be carrying something for a parent, grandparent, or excluded relative).

A symptom can be the doorway into something greater, a story that longs to be seen and heard. In those moments, a natural blend of symptom, trauma, and family constellations unfolds. We follow your body, your question, and what arises in the field, without forcing or searching for quick fixes.

When is a symptom constellation helpful?

  • You experience recurring symptoms like headaches or chronic pain.
  • You fight with burn-out, autoimmune issues or chronic fatigue and sense that something deeper may be involved.
  • Your body seems to say “no” — for example in unexplained infertility or recurring inflammation.
  • You’ve tried everything, but the pain or unrest keeps coming back.
  • You want to better understand your body and reconnect with it.

When is it less suitable?

  • If you’re dealing with acute or life-threatening issues: always consult a doctor or medical professional first.
  • If you’re hoping that one session will “solve everything”: this work takes time, openness, and sometimes multiple sessions.
  • If you’re not ready to feel into your body: a symptom constellation invites you to connect with your physical experience.

What if your body is trying to tell you something?

Sometimes someone comes with a personal question — like restlessness, exhaustion, or the sense of always running into a wall. Burnout, for example, often reveals much more than “too much work.” It can point to old survival strategies, patterns of over-responsibility in the family, or unresolved trauma that keeps you crossing your own limits. A symptom constellation makes this visible and tangible, creating space for healing and new choices.
